Self-expression and the importance of being yourself to create beauty within art are very important notations to me as a disabled person. Growing up, I've often struggle with 'normalcy' in life. Through my journey with art, I've come to create works focused around medical and social issues in order to help spread awareness and offer others a smile who may be struggling.

From getting encephalitis, I suffered permanent neurological and physical injury that impairs my mobility skills and eyesight. This makes severe difficulties to overcome when I do artwork, as drawing causes me physical pain and I often lose control of my pencil/utensil. However, I have the desire within me to create, so I give all of my efforts to push through these challenges in order to build something and to not let the pain dominate my life.

I understand things that most people deem dreadful or the opposite of traditional beauty. This is why I combine cute and [somewhat] creepy together--in order to help invite the idea that many things people fear out of lack of knowledge don't have to be looked at negatively. And so while I am the artist of Moonrise Lotus, I often use "we", as I could not do a lot of the physical requirements or travel without my partner and family members that have been there for me throughout everything.
